Monday, October 21, 2019

INVESTBANK, the leader in providing innovative financial solutions in Jordan, has sponsored the Future Food/ Future City urban agriculture exhibition, held as part of Amman Design Week 2019. The sponsorship is in line with INVESTBANK’s ongoing commitment to promoting food security, food safety and sustainable living for local communities in Jordan.

Under the theme of “Possibilities”, Amman Design Week’s third edition was held from October 4 to 12 across the three districts of Ras Al Ain, Jabal Amman and Jabal Al Weibdeh.

Future Food/ Future City exhibition explored the conversion of public spaces into safe hubs for food production. It showcased the main opportunities, challenges and accomplishments of urban agriculture and new food technologies in Jordan by a number of pioneering individuals and institutions. The exhibition covered topics related to rooftop gardening, organic farming, hydro culture, and aquaponics. Speakers and exhibitors examined how rooftops, gardens, streets and schools can be transformed into green spaces that transform livelihoods and bring communities together.

“INVESTBANK is proud to sponsor and be part of the success of Amman Design Week 2019.” Said Muntaser Dawwas, INVESTBANK CEO. “Through recruiting design thinking and innovation, we believe that design is a crucial tool in solving current and future problems. For example; the urban agriculture solution, showcased by “Greening The Camps” will enable members of the community to be more self-reliant and produce healthy food.”

“The purpose of design, ultimately, in my view, is to improve the quality of life for people and the planet. Design thinking informs human-centric innovation and begins with developing an understanding of customers’ or users’ unmet or unarticulated needs. It also allows people who aren’t trained as designers to use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges”. Added Dawwas

Rana Beiruti, the director of Amman Design Week, commented:"It's such a privilege to see this engagement between the private sector and entrepreneurial talent, all focused towards social good and sustainable design. This project and the collaboration with INVESTBANK is really what Amman Design Week is all about, and falls in line with our objectives to create connections, and work towards a lasting impact through design."

As part of its role as sponsor, INVESTBANK showcased an urban agriculture solution designed and installed by Greening The Camps, a non-profit organization that designs, develops, builds and maintains rooftop gardens in Palestinian refugee camps. The solution, a joint effort between INVESTBANK, Greening The Camps and Amman Design Week, represents a new model of sustainable living that aims to support local communities by creating green rooftop gardens that can secure part of their needs for food production. The modelis supplied with a self-constructed watering system and comes in a modular box format suitable for limited spaces.

The model that was presented at Amman Design Week 2019 aims to enhance local empowerment and foster sustainable economic development for local communities in Jordan. The model will be reassembled and placed as a rooftop garden in Gaza Camp in Jerash. The model will then be replicated for several families living in the camp.

INVESTBANK’s social responsibility philosophy lies in the creation of sustainable initiatives, through which the impact of social and environmental development can be multiplied. INVESTBANK has focused on creating unique and effective initiatives that build the capacities of individuals and their communities to achieve greater success and prosperity, and foster a spirit of loyalty and responsibility towards the larger community.
