Empowering Families in Jordan: Connecting Parents & Experts Once Again

Date:
Mon, 10/02/2017

Parents and educators connected on Saturday with Jordan’s top experts to discuss saving habits, schooling and parenting at “Ask Our Experts II”, a follow-up to a workshop series launched earlier this year.

Through a partnership with INVESTBANK, Al Marji’ Publications (publishers of Jordan’s only parenting magazines, Family Flavours and Nakahat ‘Ailiyeh) and The Children’s Museum Jordan, 14 of Jordan’s experts led interactive sessions with parents on financial inclusion as well as the daily challenges faced by parents and children at school. The Museum offered accompanying children the opportunity to learn through play in its safe educational spaces whilst their parents attended the sessions.

“Both parenting and progressive education play a crucial role in the development of future generations, particularly when it comes to addressing many of the challenges our children typically face throughout their development,” said Muntaser Dawwas, INVESTBANK’s Chief Executive Officer. He added that “INVESTBANK is committed to creating initiatives that allow parents to understand the most effective methods for enhancing child financial literacy in the hope of fostering generations capable of innovation, self-empowerment and positive change.”

The event was attended by senior officials in the fields of leadership, parenting, education and human rights. Participants included Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa Ali, Senator Yasera Ghosheh, Senator Haifa Najjar and Former Minster Reem Abu Hassan.

Managing Director and Publisher of Al Marji’ Publications, Hind-Lara Mango stated that “Ask Our Experts is such an important workshop series as it offers parents and educators reliable and credible expert advice and the opportunity to network.” Mango added that “we are so happy to partner once again with INVESTBANK and The Children’s Museum Jordan – it has been a pleasure working as a team toward a social cause we can all rally behind.”

“We are proud to host this event which enriches our role in supporting parents and children’s educational experiences and development,” said Sawsan Dalaq, Director of The Children’s Museum Jordan. She added that this event “is also a chance to reinforce the importance of parents’ role in raising and educating their children, reflecting positively on their future.”

The range of topics covered saving habits, such as the importance of goal driven versus general savings, presented by INVESTBANK’s Christeen Haddadin; emotional health and the impact of family life on a child’s academic achievement was highlighted by Family Counsellor Khalil Zeud; mental health, promoting good study skills and making homework less stressful was handled by Learning Difficulties Specialist Rania Sayegh. Physical health and handling food allergies at school was discussed by Genetics and Biotechnology Expert Zeina Sahyoun. Other topics included nutrition, dental health, bullying, self-esteem, sexual abuse and more.
